Given that Hunger Games is trending I want to remind everyone that Peeta is canonly a disabled amputee who lost his leg in the first games and he wears a prosthetic. The movies were so wrong to remove that
Everyone is talking about how Lucy Gray informed how Snow treated Katniss and Peeta, and of course, many an essay has been written on that subject already, noting the parallels.
But I wanna talk about Haymitch. Haymitch’s life after his games was marred by the Capitol punishing him for his “use” of the force field, which doesn’t make much sense at first. Why would the Capitol hold that against him and as such a high crime? At this point, Haymitch is the only other District 12 tribute to win the Hunger Games ever, other than Lucy Gray Baird. I think that fact, combined with the use of the force feild rubbed Snow the wrong way. I think he perceived it as cheating. And boy does he have personal experience with Distict 12 cheating in the Hunger Games.
At the time, Haymitch’s victory was the only reminder of Lucy Gray in the past 40 years. And even though it was small, it was still enough to warrant punishment.
